Do the best you can until you know better, then when you know better, do better – Maya Angelou

The UK ranks in the bottom 10% of countries worldwide in terms of nature depletion.
Within living memory half of vertebrate wildlife in the UK has been lost and 25% of remaining mammals are at risk of extinction.
Flying insects have plummeted by 78% in the past 20 years with 2024 widely reported to have been significantly worse..
75% of our food crops and 90% of wildflowers rely on pollinating insects and other animals.
Wild bird numbers have declined by 73m since 1970 and 70 species are on the UK Birds of Conservation Concern Red List.
We’ve lost 90% of our wetland habitats and 97% of wildflower meadows in the last 100 years.

Our rivers, fields, hedgerows and gardens once teeming with life, have become depleted and our degraded soils and disrupted ecosystems leave us all vulnerable.

Our Vision
We are one species in the global ecosystem of life.
All species, including us, are connected and reliant on each other for survival – that is the complex web of the natural world, and we sit right amongst it. Serious disruption of these connections threatens every aspect of life.
Our vision is to grow people’s connection to the land, to foster an appreciation of and sense of responsibility for the natural world, and to rebalance ecosystems and restore biodiversity across the UK.
We call on governments, communities and individuals to act and reshape our future to build an abundant, resilient natural world for the benefit of all.

There is a growing understanding of the fragility we have created and an urgency in the need to take action towards a healthy and abundant future for us all.

Our Mission
Restore Nature’s approach is twofold. We will work top down, calling for reform in governance at national level. We will also work ground up, supporting and inspiring individuals and communities driving practical reform.

Our campaigns will tackle critical issues to influence policy and public opinion. At Restore Nature, we give nature a voice and advocate for progressive practices that balance the needs of people and the nature. We speak up on environmental, land use and health policies that disproportionately and adversely impact our natural world.
Our "Restore your" programmes will bring nature restoration and biodiversity recovery into your hands. Nature restoration can happen at any scale. We offer you and your communities practical knowledge and skills to restore nature where you live for the benefit your family, animals and local environment − and, ultimately, our shared planet.
