A true countryman, Reuben has lived in rural areas all his life, growing up on a small dairy farm in Gloucestershire before studying at Aberystwyth University. Since then he has forged a career in nature conservation in Scotland working in both the public and private sectors.
For the last ten years he has run his own company, Tweed Ecology, providing ecological expertise across northern England and southern Scotland.
Reuben’s earliest memories are of trees being dynamited, hedgerows being bulldozed, and the culverting of stickleback-filled ditches to make larger fields. This made a big impression on him and he has been fighting to stem the loss of natural habitat since.
Reuben’s role in Restore Nature is to provide a lived understanding of rural life and the motivations of the other people making a living in the countryside. Importantly this includes the ability to recognise when false narratives are being promoted against the restoration of nature.
